PVS-21 Reviews

To the OP, if you have ever tried a PVS-21 you will NEVER go back to a single or standard dual tube monoc system ever again. The 21's are something VERY special and the capabilities are incredible. I know, it's all I have been using for the last few years. 
I do wish they were a bit less expensive, but the price of this technology drives this price and I cannot say enough how effective these systems are in all lighting conditions. 

When you think of NODs (Night Observing Device) you think of a short tube that sticks out about 4.5″ from your face. In most cases they are like a scope, light enters in through the objective lens and in a straight line, shines out the back through the eyepiece and out the eyepiece into your eye. Well, Steiner has an unconventional approach to dual tube night vision. The PVS-21 is a low profile night vision goggle that does not stick out as far. Reducing the protrusion by about 3-4 inches. Making the PVS-21 the lowest profile NODs on the market.
I have used the 21s a good bit since 02. Some things I like:
There are good for driving, if you come into a lit area, or oncoming traffic the non amplified or true image takes over in the beam combiner, same thing when moving from a dark hall way to a lit room. Sometimes you get a double image effect, but its not to bad. Plus you can just turn them off and see right through them. And it has good depth perception.
  • You can use them with a red dot on your long gun, as fast as your naked eye.
  • If you have to see things up close, they focus with great clarity.
  • They do not stick out far from your face. If you are in a confined armor vehicle, and everyone has NV that sticks out you some time "lock antlers" not so with the 21s
  • What I don't like: They are heavy, You need a really solid mount or they will droop.
  • Have not compared a 14 to 21 for quality of image, will take a few out tonight and do so.
